Organic

It is important.  Buy it whenever you can.  I won't use the word organic in front of every ingredient because if it is available, I am buying the organic version.  I know it can cost a little more, but there are ways to eat healthy on a budget.  You just have to look for them!

Cooking Fats

Believe it or not, fat is good for you.  It is totally necessary for healthy brain function.  Choose high quality fats for cooking. My favorites are Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Ghee, Avocado Oil & Walnut Oil.

Flours & Starches

Paleo foods are grain free, therefore you will need to educate yourself on the different flours available for Paleo cooking & baking.  I use Almond Flour & Coconut Flour as my main sources but also add in Arrowroot Flour & Tapioca Flour on occasion.

Sweeteners

These should be used sparingly, but some recipes just need to be sweetened, therefore my sweeteners of choice are Maple Syrup, Honey, Coconut Sugar & Dried Fruit.

Seasonings

Be sure to read labels.  Most seasonings that contain more than one ingredient also contain chemicals or preservatives that can derail a nourishing health journey. Avoiding these will help maintain long term health goals.  When I want to purchase a pre-made seasoning, this is one of my favorite brands.

Nuts & seeds

These make great snacks, toppings or coatings for meat.  They are high in omega-6 fatty acids, so caution is necessary to eat healthy serving portions.   It is very easy to eat large amounts of nuts mindlessly, which can lead to inflammation, especially for anyone dealing with an autoimmune disease.  I order a lot of nuts & other ingredients from this company.
